Default Changing my router. Am I making a new network?

Sorry if I sound like a noob. I was having my problems with my last router. I was losing connection and had no wifi. The one and only antannae was very loose and damaged somewhat.

I bought a better one anyway. Its a dual-band Gigabit Router. Now my question is can/do I keep the same name of my network? What about my password? Its been a while since I hooked up the last router. (and I had trouble at first)

Thanks in advance

Depending upon the brand of the router that you will be using, there will be a gateway page. This gateway page is where you can make all of your changes and it will look something like "192.168.2.1", from here you will login and you will be able to change your SSID, which is the network name. If all else fails, chances are your router will come with a cd or even a link to download a mobile application to make it that much easier.

Since you have a new router it's better off to start everything from scratch. Including using a different SSID, password and making your network undiscoverable by default. This will make your home network allot safer.

I think you will not have to make a new network, at my work place we change routers from time to time and the pc's that are shared stay shared, but I should also mention that we don't use password protected sharing because its a closed network and the pc's don't have wireless adapters, ethernet only, anyways give it a try, if you have trouble put the old one back and seek for help, best would be if you have a friend to hook it up for you, however if you are really want to do it yourself I think its not too hard, with all the info on the internet and also the tech forums will help you very fast, I was amazed how fast someone on the tomshardware forum helped me with my router, but I did have a really specific problem with my router.

In the gateway page you can set what you want, name, password, so it can lok like the same network for your computers when you use wifi. For the etherned connected computers nothing changes at all as their ip and a things are either renewed or they stay the same depending on what is set in network settings.
